867,115. Vehicle wheels. RUF, W. Sept. 8, 1958 [Dec. 24, 1957], No. 28699/58. Class 144(2). A track wheel for track-laying vehicles has a rubber tyre 3 which is laterally displaceable on the wheel rim 2 and is retained thereon by two side rings 5 which partially overlap the tyre and clamp it therebetween, and which are secured together by bolts 7 passing through the wheel body 1, there being rubber distance-pieces 9 on the bolts 7 between the wheel body and each side ring to resiliently oppose lateral displacement of the tyre on the rim. As shown, the rim 2 is cylindrical with tapered ends 4 to facilitate changing of the tyre, and the siderings 5 are of angle-section with inner peripheral perforated lugs 6 to receive the bolts 7. The tyre-engaging portions of the rings 5 seat in recesses in the tyre sides so that the laterally outer surfaces of the rings lie flush with the tyre sides. In use, the lateral resilience of the tyre mounting reduces wear arising from contact with the track guides 10 under lateral forces.
