摘要 #CMT# #/CMT# Cleaning equipment for processing liquids containing organic matter involves contacting the equipment with a solution of a periodate compound, where one of the following steps is performed, (A) where the solution has a pH value of = 6, the method further involves contacting the equipment with a solution having a pH value of >= 6; and (B) where a solution of a periodate is used at a pH value of >= 6, the method involves an additional oxidizing agent such as peroxydisulphate, hydrogen peroxide or a peracid. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# For cleaning equipment such as a filter (preferably membrane filter) which is useful for processing liquids containing organic matter (claimed) and for producing liquid foodstuffs such as milk (products), fruit juices, beer, soft drinks (such as lemonades), cider, wine, sherry, port, and distilled drinks in the food industry, sewage and water purification plants. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The cleaning equipment removes the insoluble matter from beverages and other liquids; ensures an expedient removal of undesirable constituents, in particular micro-organisms such as algae, fungi, yeast, and bacteria (exudates); is a capable of providing a proper cleaning, which performs within a relatively short time (preferably in less than 120 minutes) and during which all contaminations are removed. #CMT#ORGANIC CHEMISTRY : #/CMT# Preferred Method: The method is carried out at 15-95 (preferably 60-95, especially 70-95)[deg] C. The periodate compound is used at a concentration of 8x 10 -> 5>to 0.5 (preferably 4x 10 -> 4>to 0.5) moles/liter. In step (A), the concentration of the periodate compound is 2-9 millimoles/liter and in step (B), the concentration of the periodate compound is less than 1.2 (preferably 1.1) millimoles/liter. The periodate that has reacted in the cleaning method is regenerated by an oxidizing agent at a pH of >= 6. The regenerating oxidizing agent is added in a concentration of 3-20 (preferably 6-15, especially 6-1.2) millimoles/liter. In step (A), the periodate treatment is followed by a treatment with an oxidizing agent that is reactive towards dialdehyde polysaccharides, where the regeneration is performed by an oxidizing agent chosen from any of a hypochlorite, a monoperoxysulphate or a peracid, or by electrochemical unit. Preferred Components: The additional oxidizing agent is a peroxydisulphate (preferably its soluble salt). The regenerating oxidizing agent is a hypochlorite, a hypobromite or ozone; and used in an aqueous solution in a concentration of 2x 10 -> 4>to 2 (preferably 5x 10 -> 4>to 2, especially 5x 10 -> 3>to 1) moles/liter. #CMT#EXAMPLE : #/CMT# Cleaning with periodate/sodium hydroxide/sodium perdisulphate was carried out as follows: through a fouled membrane module, precleaned through a back flush, an aqueous solution containing periodate (0.46 mM), sodium perdisulphate (0.008 M) and sodium hydroxide (0.11 M) was recirculated. The temperature of the treatment was maintained at 70[deg] C throughout the whole procedure. After 45 minutes the module was removed from the solution. The clean water flux after this treatment was obtained as 48800 l.m -> 2>.hr -> 1>.bar -> 1>.
