PARKING ASSISTANCE DEVICE AND PARKING ASSISTANCE METHOD

A parking assistance device capable of estimating the orientation of a parking space by using a simple structure. The parking assistance device has obstacle detection means (70) for detecting an obstacle around a vehicle and also has means (16, 18, 43) for acquiring information on the orientation of the vehicle. The parking assistance device estimates the orientation of a parking space that can be present around the obstacle, and the estimation is based on the result of the detection by the obstacle detection means and on the information on the orientation.
