LARGE SIZED SURFACE LIGHT SOURCE AND BACKLIGHT UNIT HAVING THE SAME

A large sized surface light source and a backlight unit having the same are provided to improve the display quality of the liquid crystal display by increasing the whole brightness uniformity. A plurality of discharge channels(120a, 120b) are formed at one side or both sides of two flat type surface light source devices(100a,100b). The dark part is formed at the combining portion(J) between flat type surface light source devices. The dark part at the combining portion is minimized by changing the form of electrode portions(160a,160b) formed at both ends of the discharge channel. The electrode portion area is increased in the outermost channel in order to minimize the dark part.
