摘要 <p>An optical element, a method for manufacturing the same, a liquid crystal display device, and an electronic apparatus are provided to suppress insertion of a protective layer material between adjacent protrusions by supporting the protective layer material on a wide surface area in a forming process of a protective layer for covering a top part of the protrusions. An optical element having a polarization separation function includes a base layer(21), a plurality of protrusions(22), and a protective layer(24). The protrusions are made of conductors arranged on the base layer. The protrusions have linear shapes and are arranged in parallel to each other. The protective layer is formed to cover a top part of the protrusions and to form a cavity part(26) between the protrusions. The width of the protrusion is maximized toward the protective layer in comparison with a position corresponding to 1/2 of the height of the protrusion.</p>
