A slope way detecting and maximum speed limit method for electric vehicle is provided to prevent accident in advance by automatically limiting the maximum speed of electric vehicle. In slope way detecting and maximum speed limit method, an HEV- ECU(Hybrid Electric Vehicle-Electronic Control Unit) detects the present voltage of battery(S101). Deviation between the reference voltage with the detected voltage is calculated(S102). The calculated voltage deviation is compared with predetermined voltage(S103). If the voltage deviation is greater than the comparison voltage, the maximum speed which is predetermined current speed is updated(S104). If current speed is higher than the update maximum speed, the present speed is reduced to the maximum speed(S106). If the voltage deviation is lower than the comparison voltage, the predetermined current speed is updated(S107). The current speed of electric vehicle is increased to the updated maximum speed(S108).
