A method of treating flax fibres is disclosed. The method, which takes raw material which could be short flax fibre No. 2, combing wastes and other wastes, consists of opening, cleaning, retting, cottonisation and drying of the fibres, where the opening of the flax fibres is carried out three times; firstly before cleaning, secondly before retting, and thirdly after cottonisation, and the cottonisation step is done by means of electro-hydraulic action on the fibres while they are immersed in a liquid.
