The compounds are A1 adenosine receptor agonists useful in the treatment of atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia and atrial flutter, congestive heart failure, epilepsy, stroke, diabetes, obesity, ischemia, stable angina, unstable angina, cardiac transplant, myocardial infarction and hyperlipidemia.
