The device (D) has an actuator (AC) arranged to apply tension of chosen value to a belt (CS), where the tension is defined by an instruction. A sensor (CT) is arranged to measure the tension in a chosen place and to deliver measurement of tension. Processing units (MT) are arranged to determine value of the tension according to delivered measurement and information received relating to safety of a vehicle and to generate an instruction defining the value of determined tension. An independent claim is also included for a method for warning a potential danger for a passenger installed on a seat of a motor vehicle.
