The method involves determining a group of values of acceptable window size for the transmission of multimedia content. A value of window size is determined, where the value is accepted from the group of values of acceptable window size, and the accepted value is maximum value of window accepted by an intermediate quality of service device (140) for the transmission of content. Information representative of the accepted value is sent to a receiver device for initializing the transmission of content between source and receiver devices based on the size of window equal to the accepted value.
