Use of at least an extract (I) of non-photosynthetic and non-fruiting filamentous bacteria cultivated in a medium containing non-sulfurous mineral and/or thermal water, as agent to prevent or limit hair loss, promote healthy, shiny, thick hair growth, and/or improve the appearance of hair, is claimed. Independent claims are included for: (1) a composition comprising (I) cultivated in the medium containing non-sulfurous mineral and/or thermal water and an active ingredient (to fight against hair loss) comprising lysyl and/or propyl hydroxylase inhibitors, 5-alpha -reductase inhibitors, and modulator for crosslinking perifollicular collagen, steroidal antiinflammatory, mimetic melanotropin and antihypertensive agents, and/or an active ingredient (to promote regrowth and/or limit hair loss) comprising lipoxygenase inhibitors, bradykinin inhibitors, prostaglandins, prostaglandins receptor agonists or antagonists, non-prostanoic analogue of prostaglandins, vasodilators, anti-androgens, cyclosporines and its analogues, anti-microbial agent, antifungal agent and/or triterpenes; and (2) a cosmetic process to prevent and/or reduce the hair loss, comprising applying the composition on the scalp.
