PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect and correct a write error during readback process. SOLUTION: A method detects a cycle slip in a data string read from a bit patterned medium and adjusts the data string to compensate for the cycle slip. A system also includes a means for compensating for a cycle slip lapsed during adjusting data read from a writable data storage medium and a data storage medium and then writing the data onto a recording medium.
