The device has an exhaust gas treatment unit with a base body (10) that is heated by using a heating unit (16) and by passing through the exhaust gas. The heating unit includes a heating grid (18), where sides of the grid are enclosed by the base body in cross-section manner. The heating grid comprises a set of heating filaments (20), which is extendably arranged in a flow direction of the exhaust gas through the base body and coated with a catalytic-effective substance. The filaments are integratably formed in a marginal wall of a channel. An independent claim is also included for a method for treatment of exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle.
