PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus, an image processing method, and an image processing program which are capable of quickly and precisely deducing the expression on the face of a subject. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus includes a means for acquiring images of the subject, with prescribed resolutions at a plurality of different timings; a means for detecting face areas from the images of the subject; a means for extracting information relating to shapes of components of the subject's face from the face areas; a means for selecting reference face information being a reference for estimating the expression from face information; and an expression estimation means for estimating the expression on the subject's face, on the basis of reference face information. First, a reference facial information is generated from an image photographed by a first resolution; next a second facial information relating to shapes of components of the subject's face is extracted from an image photographed at a second resolution which is lower than the first resolution; and then, the reference face information and the second face information are compared, to deduce the expression on the subject's face by the expression estimation means.
