PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing high-purity furan-2,5-dicarboxylic acid (FDCA) in a short time in high yield with a reduced energy consumption. SOLUTION: The method for producing the furan-2,5-dicarboxylic acid comprises alternately or simultaneously charging an alkali aqueous solution containing a metal permanganate and a 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) aqueous solution to a reaction vessel, while keeping the quantitative relation of the metal permanganate and the 5-HMF so as to satisfy the expression of 2.30≤(moles of the metal permanganate)/(moles of the 5-HMF)≤2.53 to oxidize the 5-HMF by the metal permanganate in the alkaline environment to produce FDCA.
