PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording composition suitable for digital volume holography having a large recording capacity and also high sensitivity; to provide a holographic recording medium using the optical recording composition, enabling ultra high-density recording; and to provide a polymerizing monomer having improved reactivity. SOLUTION: The optical recording composition contains a vinyl cyclopropane compound expressed by a general expression (1), wherein, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>independently denote a hydrogen atom, a substituted or non-substituted alkyl group, a substituted or non-substituted aryl group or a substituted or non-substituted heterocyclic group; X denotes an oxygen atom or a monovalent substitute expressed by NR<SP>4</SP>, and R<SP>4</SP>denotes a hydrogen atom, a substituted or non-substituted alkyl group, a substituted or non-substituted aryl group or a substituted or non-substituted heterocyclic group.
