PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a liquid crystal display device of a vertical alignment mode capable of reducing the degradation in contrast due to local light leakage in a shielding state. SOLUTION: A first substrate 110 of the liquid crystal display device 100 is equipped with a high polymer structure 114 formed by locally polymerizing a polymeric compound added to a liquid crystal layer. The high polymer structure 114 in a plane view from a direction perpendicular to the first substrate 110 has a shape which is a line symmetric shape and a shape greater in the width H in a symmetric axis L direction than the width W in a direction perpendicular to the symmetric axis L.
