The extruded profile component (10) is held in the same device (30), especially a clamping unit, during both cutting- and alignment operations. The profile is machined by cutting, at either or both ends. It is aligned by bending and/or twisting, especially after local preheating. Weaknesses are introduced into the material of the profile, before alignment. Heating and/or weakening are introduced as a function of measured local departures from the required form. An independent claim IS INCLUDED FOR corresponding equipment.
