<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly read video signal from a CCD and to obtain a relatively bright image. <P>SOLUTION: Five fields comprising sets of 5n lines of fields of a CCD are prescribed. In the case of high object luminance (YES in step 25), the first and second fields are used in order to give priority to quick reading (step 27). In the case of low object luminance (NO in step 25), the first to fourth fields are used in order to obtain a bright object image (step 26).
