PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of preventing an unnecessary black line from appearing in a read image even when a document is conveyed in an oblique state. SOLUTION: The image reader includes an image read means 108 of reading the conveyed document 123 together with a background member 109 to acquire image data, a shadow detecting means of detecting a shadow part of the document 123 formed on the background member 109 in the image data acquired by the image read means 108, and a shadow removing means of removing the shadow part detected by the shadow detecting means from the image data.
