PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stably manufacturing a porous filler having a high existing ratio of macropores in all pores, and a porous filler obtained by the method. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of the porous filler comprises bringing a reaction product of a layered clay mineral and a coupling agent into contact with a gel-like water-soluble polymer binder in a dispersion and then subjecting the resultant mixture to a freeze-drying treatment to obtain the porous filler having macropores.
