PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for selectively producing an electron-attracting group-substituted propane compound. SOLUTION: This method for producing the propane compound represented by formula (4) (wherein, E<SP>1</SP>to E<SP>4</SP>are each an electron-attracting group or the like) comprises reacting an electron-attracting group-substituted methane compound such as a malonate with an electron-attracting group-substituted vinyl compound such as an acrylate in the presence of a fluoride ion-containing alkyl-substituted imidazolium salt.
