943,642. Filters. GILLIAM & CO. Ltd. April 26, 1960, No. 14663/60. Heading B1D. A liquid filter comprises a container 1 formed from two identical outwardly flanged cylinders having clamped between their flanges a plate 5 dividing the container 1 into two separate chambers 2 and 3 possessing external liquid connections 7 and 8 respectively. The plate 5 has one or more apertures each covered by a perforated cylindrical filter element 6, to filter liquid passing from one chamber to the other. The perforated cylinders 9 are covered with cloth, supported away from the tube 9 by a composite layer 10 of cellular material, such as woven polythene, in order that the effective filtering area may be considerably larger than the area of the perforations in the tube 9. The liquid flow is preferably into the cylinders 9 to facilitate cleaning of the filtering material at some later stage of the operation, the disused apertures being temporarily blanked off by a plug. The tubes 9 are clamped to the plate 5 by nuts 12, screwed on to the threaded portions of the tubes 9 protruding through the apertures in the plate 5. Two stages of filtering, with three chambers, may be used.
|
