PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sufficiently secures an excavating stroke for protruding and withdrawing an excavating head from the inside of a tunnel in a tunnel transverse direction, and to store the head in a limited tunnel space. SOLUTION: The tunnel widening excavator excavates the outside natural ground from the inside of the tunnel, and is formed of: a base frame 10 which is movable and guided by a movable rail 3 arranged on a tunnel internal wall 1 along a tunnel axial direction; the rotary excavating head 15 for excavating the natural ground; and first to third protruding/withdrawing mechanisms 11 to 13 which are arranged between the base frame 10 and the excavating head 15 for protruding and withdrawing the excavating head 15 in the tunnel transverse direction. The second protruding/withdrawing mechanism 12 has a rocking function for rocking the excavating head 15 in a tunnel circumferential direction. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
