PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compactly-made machine particularly having a work space that can be enclosed and hermetically sealed as easily as possible for machining optical workpieces, in particular plastic spectacles.

SOLUTION: An adjusting mechanism 26 has a linear drive unit 28 and a swivel drive unit 30 that are stacked vertically on each other. A workpiece spindle 12 is rotatable by the swivel drive unit 30 around the swivel axis A that is substantially perpendicular to the workpiece rotation axis B. The workpiece spindle 12 can be moved along the linear axis Y by the linear drive unit 28.
