PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a braking device of an elevator hoist machine capable of suppressing the temperature rise of a lining and a rotating portion (a brake drum or disc), and preventing damage. SOLUTION: The braking device 200 presses the lining 201 against the brake drum 209 rotating around a main shaft while receiving thrust, thereby brakes rotations of the brake drum 209 with friction. The braking device 200 is equipped with a cooling mechanism jetting a cooling medium from an injection port of the cooling medium provided near the lining 201 toward the lining 201. The cooling mechanism is composed of a hoist machine control circuit 301, a cooling medium storage container 302, supply valve opening/closing instrument 303, and a piping manifold 304 and piping connecting these.
