PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a balanced friction material used for both of a service brake and a parking brake satisfying requirement performance at service braking and enhance static friction coefficient at parking braking. SOLUTION: The friction material contains a fiber base material, a friction adjustment agent and a binder. As the friction adjustment agent, 2-20 vol.% of cashew dust, 10-25 vol.% of a rubber component and 2-5 vol.% of a solid lubricant are contained, a total amount of the cashew dust and the rubber component is 30 vol.% or lower, and graphite becoming a factor for reducing friction coefficient at parking braking is not contained.
