PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for discharging a liquid which make it possible to shorten the printing time. SOLUTION: The device for discharging the liquid is provided with a plurality of nozzles which discharge the liquid, a sensor which detects a faulty nozzle causing a discharge fault at the time when the liquid is to be discharged, a recovery mechanism which recovers the faulty nozzle so that the liquid may be normally discharged therefrom, and a control part which compares a method of discharging the liquid after the faulty nozzle gets recovered by the recovery mechanism with a method of discharging the liquid without recovering the faulty nozzle and without using the faulty nozzle, and makes the liquid discharged by the method requiring a shorter treating time than the other.
