PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve reading quality at the edge part of an original placed on an original reading platen by increasing quantity of irradiating light and reflected light which are radiated to the edge part of the original. SOLUTION: The original reading device is equipped with an original positioning plate 300 arranged near the end of a platen plate and positioning the edge of the placed original, and a reference white board 400 provided in parallel with the original positioning plate 300 so as to perform shading correction, and is equipped with a positioning means for arranging and fixing the edge part of the reference white board 400 so as to be aligned with the edge part to position the edge of the original of the original positioning plate 300. The positioning means includes projection parts provided on both right and left sides of the original positioning plate 300, and both sides of the edge part of the reference white board 400 are made to abut on the projection parts, whereby the reference white board 400 is positioned so that the edge part of the reference white board 400 and the edge part of the original positioning plate 300 are aligned with each other.
