PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a roll body carriage apparatus provided with a transfer apparatus capable of smoothly performing automatic transfer of the roll body such as a master roll without complicating a structure. SOLUTION: This roll body carriage apparatus has the transfer apparatus 10 for loading/unloading the roll body having protruding portions on both sides between its retaining devices. The transfer apparatus has two core receiving sections 11-1, 11-2 for receiving the protruding portions, two lifters 12-1, 12-2 for lifting up and down the core receiving sections independently, and two load cells 13-1, 13-2 for detecting a load working on each of the core receiving sections, and receives detected values from the above to independently control lifting-up and -down of the two lifters. When the detected values exceed predetermined values, the apparatus controls to stop the two lifters, and when it judges the values are within the predetermined range, it outputs signals for instructing release of retention by retaining means.
