PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further improve fixability at a fixation nip part according to recording medium. SOLUTION: The fixing device 6 is configured to make a recording medium P on which an unfixed toner image is transferred pass through the fixation nip part N6 formed between a thermal fixing member 6a and a pressure member 6b coming into press contact with the thermal fixing member 6a, and thermally fix the unfixed toner image. The fixing device 6 includes: a pressure member position changing means 660 for changing the position of the pressure member to the thermal fixing member according to the type of the recording medium passing through the fixation nip part; and a surface temperature detecting means 612 for detecting the surface temperature of the thermal fixing member 6a, also, configured to attach/detach to/from the thermal fixing member in conjunction with the position change of the pressure member. When the recording medium passing through the fixation nip part has a thickness of a prescribed value or more, the pressure member position changing means moves the pressure member in a direction separate from the thermal fixing member, and the surface temperature detecting means moves in a direction separate from the thermal fixing member in conjunction with the movement of the pressure member.
