PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To successively detect defective pixel in detail at the time of photography in a defective pixel detecting device provided in an imaging apparatus having an imaging element. SOLUTION: A pixel data acquisition section 20a of a defective pixel detecting section 20 provided in an imaging apparatus 100 for successively acquiring a target pixel to be retrieved for defective pixel and pixel data of a plurality of peripheral pixels arranged around the target pixel. A first calculation section 20b respectively calculates absolute values (first absolute value) of the differences of the pixel data between the predetermined peripheral pixels. A threshold setting section 20c for determining defective pixel switches the threshold for determining defective pixel based on the respective differences between the first absolute values and the predetermined threshold. A second calculation section 20d respectively calculates absolute values (second absolute value) of the differences of the pixel data of the target pixel and the pixel data of the predetermined peripheral pixels. A defective pixel determining section 20e determines whether the target pixel is defective pixel based on the second absolute values and the threshold for determining defective pixel.
