A digital broadcasting system and a method of processing data in the digital broadcasting system are provided to receive mobile service data without error in a channel in which ghost and noise are severe. A receiving system comprises a signal receiving unit, a known data detecting unit(1004) and an equalizer(1003). The signal receiving unit receives a data group and a broadcasting signal. The data group includes mobile service data and a plurality of known data sequences. One of the known data sequences is comprised of the first pattern, and the remaining known data sequence is comprised of the second pattern which is different from the first pattern. A known data detecting unit detects a known data sequence from the data group. The equalizer compensates for channel distortion generated in data of the data group by using the detected known data sequence.
