A method for registering IMS(Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem) and a portable device using the same are provided to control the message transferring timing for IMS server registration by the CS call communication time. A controller requests registration to the IMS server(S101). If it senses(S102) failure in the IMS server registration, the first timer is operated(S103). At this time, the CS call is generated in the portable terminal, the controller senses this(S104) and controller stops the first timer drive(S105). Additionally, while starting the CS call(S106), it operates the second timer and controller counts the CS call conversation time. If the controller senses that the CS call is completed, the CS call total calling time and the first timer total remaining time are confirmed(S108).
