<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a top emission type organic electroluminescent element having high luminescent efficiency without the need for a resonance structure when light forming an image is emitted toward a cathode. <P>SOLUTION: The organic electroluminescent element comprises an anode 2 containing an anode material for injecting holes, an organic layer 3 having a luminescent layer formed on the anode, and the cathode 4 formed on the organic layer 3 for light emitted from the luminescent layer of the organic layer to permeate therethrough.
