PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a glass substrate for a magnetic disk capable of drastically increasing manufacturing efficiency of the glass substrate by regenerating a defective glass substrate which has been scrapped heretofore and to provide a manufacturing method of the magnetic disk. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method for manufacturing the glass substrate for the magnetic disk by polishing the disk like glass substrate includes an inspection step (S104) for detecting a defect on a principal surface of the disk like glass substrate and acquiring a position or the distribution of the defect, a quality judging step (S106) for judging whether a prescribed specification is satisfied, abut the defect, a defective part specifying step (S108) specifying a defective part according to the position or the distribution of the defect of the glass substrate which is judged that the prescribed specification is not satisfied in the quality judging step and a defect removing treatment step (S110) for removing the defect from the defective part.
