PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for a diesel engine capable of accurately estimating exhaust pressure and exhaust temperature, and accurately calculating an EGR rate. SOLUTION: The diesel engine 10 is equipped with an EGR device 70 for taking in gas from a passage 50a (exhaust passage) and making it flow in a passage 40a (intake passage). An ECU 100 has a function (fuel information obtaining means) for obtaining at least one of a theoretical air-fuel ratio, density, and a heat generating amount as fuel property information which is information regarding the property of the supplied fuel; and a function (exhaust state estimating means) for estimating the exhaust pressure and the exhaust temperature in the exhaust passage (passage 50a) based on the obtained fuel property. Even when a fuel with a different property from the prescribed diesel fuel is supplied, by reflecting the obtained fuel property information (theoretical air-fuel ratio, density, heat generation amount), a more accurate exhaust temperature and exhaust pressure can be estimated.
