摘要 A point-to-multipoint optical communication system which allows a distance between the subscriber-side equipment and the office-side equipment to be extended without changing the wavelengths of up-going optical signals and down-going optical signals in use for both sides of equipment. Utilizing an optical network for connecting one set of office-side equipment (1) and a plurality of n sets of subscriber-side equipment (4) as a basic configuration, the point-to-multipoint optical communication system shares a single office-side wavelength combining/branching filter (22), a single optical fiber transmission path (30) and a single subscriber-side wavelength combining/branching filter (12) for m sets of basic configuration, having a office-side relay section (20) and a subscriber-side relay section (10) each consisting of a single wavelength combining/branching filter (22, 12) and m sets of wavelength converters (21, 11). An optical signal of existing wavelength is used between the office-side equipment (1) and the office-side relay section (20) and between the subscriber-side equipment (4) and the subscriber-side relay section (10), while a wavelength multiplexing signal permitting distance extension is used between the wavelength combining/branching filters (12, 22) connected via the optical fiber transmission path (30).
