PROCESS FOR PRODUCING HONEYCOMB STRUCTURE AND APPARATUS THEREFOR

A process for producing a plugged honeycomb structure that attains a reduction of production cost through shortening of production time; and an apparatus therefor. In the state that a honeycomb structure (1) is positioned on a table part (11) with through-bore (11h) for insertion of an end face portion of the honeycomb structure (1), a film (25) is attached to the end face (8) of the honeycomb structure (1) and the rest area of the film (25) not attached to the end face (8) is attached to the table part (11). In this situation, while holding the film (25) in flat form, the film (25) is provided with open holes corresponding to the openings of partial cells (3) to thereby make a mask of the film (25). A fluid plugging material (31) is fed on the mask or the same plane as the mask by means of a plugging material feeding device (23). Thereafter, the plugging material (31) is charged into the cells (3) of the honeycomb structure (1) by means of a plugging device (24).
