PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a thickened liquid detergent composition in which there is no undissolved lump of a thickener and which has an excellent external appearance. SOLUTION: The method for producing the thickened liquid detergent composition, which contains the polyacrylic acid-based thickener, the viscosity of which at 20°C is ≥800 mPa s and the pH of which at 25°C is ≥8, comprises a step (a) of: adding an organic acid and/or its salt to water so that the concentration of the organic acid and/or its salt becomes ≥3 mass% and adjusting the pH of the resulting water, which is the organic acid and/or its salt-added water, to ≤5 at 25°C; a step (b) of adding the polyacrylic acid-based thickener to the pH-adjusted resulting water; a step (c) of dispersing the polyacrylic acid-based thickener added at the step (b); and a step (d) of defoaming in vacuum the thickener-dispersed resulting water, if necessary, and then adding other detergent components and a pH-adjusting alkaline agent.
