A spinneret' for use in making hollow threads or staple fibres from synthetic linear polycondensation or addition polymerization products comprises one or more spinning orifices, each consisting of two or more arc-shaped slits which together define the walls of the hollow thread, the distance between the ends of adjacent slits ranging from 1 to 6 times the average width of the slits, wherein the slits which together form the spinning orifice partly enclose a surface area of from 0.01 to 7 sq. mm., and wherein the ends of the adjacent slits in a longitudinal direction are substantially parallel with each other. The distance along which the slits are parallel with each other may be from 0À05-2 mm., and the width of the slits may be 0À02-0À4 mm. The ends of adjacent arc-shaped slits may be bent inwardly; outwardly, or both inwardly and outwardly, in order to bring the ends into parallel relationship. Preferred forms are shown in Figs. 1-8. Shaped branch slits may be provided at the outer edge of the arc-shaped slits (Fig. 6). Polyamides, polyesters and polyolefins may be melt-spun through the spinnerets.</p> |
