PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the response of gear change at a manual gearshift operation while preventing generation of gearshift shocks when performing gear change of an automatic transmission by the manual gearshift operation. SOLUTION: When a designated gear change standby control execution conditions are established, gear change standby control is executed by determining that the gearshift shocks are generated when switching to the second downshift gear change in the middle of the first downshift gear change. If a second downshift gear change demand is generated while a designated standby period passes from generation of a first downshift gear change demand, the second downshift gear change is started at the time, and if the second downshift gear change demand is not generated, generation of the gearshift shocks is prevented by starting the first downshift gear change when the standby period passes. When the designated gear change standby control execution conditions are not established, the response of gear change to the manual gearshift operation is improved by immediately executing normal gear change control for starting the gear change at the time of generation of the gear change demand.
