PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt moving device capable of correctly bringing the position of a belt in a sub-scanning direction to a target value. SOLUTION: The belt is driven in the moving direction 19 by being connected to a sub-scanning motor 10, which is a driving source, via a transmission system such as a drive roller 16, drive shaft, drive shaft gear 18, motor shaft gear 17, and so on. The belt moving device 110 has the belt 1 and a 2D measuring pattern 12. A 2D sensor 13 for reading the signal is attached to a counter face above it. The 2D sensor 13 can detect the positions of the belt 1 in the skew direction 20 and moving direction 19 of the belt. Main scanning is controlled by driving a roller movable means 11.
