PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a rubber composition for a cap tread of a studless tire capable of enhancing abrasion resistance without degrading performance on ice and snow; and the studless tire. SOLUTION: The rubber composition for the cap tread of the studless tire comprises a rubber component that comprises a protein-removed natural rubber, the total nitrogen content of which, as an index of protein, is≤0.3 wt.%, and a butadiene rubber at a weight rate of 30/70-70/30.
