A radio communications unit selecting device and a method thereof for shortening data transfer time are provided to provide a local area wireless communication between devices by selecting the communication unit. A command for performing local wireless communication is inputted by operating an input device of a fist laptop system(S200). A controller sets up the link of the communications units corresponding to of all communications units of the first laptop system and the second laptop system(S202). The infrared communications unit of the first laptop system transmits packet data to the infrared communications unit of the second laptop system.
