PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of yielding an excellent image by securing uniformity of the adhesive amount of lubricant applied to the surface of an image carrier regardless of the amount of toner consumed by toner forcibly consuming operation. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a developing means 30 for developing an electrostatic latent image formed on the surface of the image carrier 1 with toner, and a lubricant supply means 15 for performing lubricant applying operation to supply the lubricant to the surface of the image carrier by rotating in contact with the surface of the image carrier. The image forming apparatus includes a printing pixel counting means 41 for counting the number of printing pixels being pixels to which the toner is stuck from input image data, and a control means 24 for comparing the counted number of pixels by the printing pixel counting means with a predetermined number of pixels and obtaining a difference between them, arithmetically calculating forcible toner consumption in accordance with the difference if the obtained value is small, and actuating the lubricant supply means 15 to perform the lubricant applying operation when performing the toner forcibly consuming operation to forcibly consume the toner by actuating the developing means 30.
