PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for a biaxially oriented polyester film, in which adhered foreign matters and coating defects can drastically reduced than before, and to provide an optical polyester film. SOLUTION: A manufacturing method for biaxially oriented polyester film is characterized in that after an aqueous resin or a water dispersing resin is applied on one side or on both sides of a non-oriented film or a longitudinally oriented film, the film is laterally oriented in a stenter oven wherein the amount of dust with a particle diameter of 0.3μm or less is 5,000/ft<SP>3</SP>or less.
