METHOD FOR CREATING A MOSAIC

The invention relates to a method for creating a mosaic, which is optimised in terms of the quality and accuracy of the image obtained, said method enabling manual, semi-automatic or fully automatic operation with optimal results. For this purpose, each of the constituent parts of the tesserae are analysed on the basis of a large number of parameters including the presence of stains and the position thereof on the pieces, with each tessera being assigned a storage location. According to the invention, a programming software package is used to divide the image to be represented into graphical units. The characteristics of said graphical units are analysed and compared to the available pieces and the most similar piece from the available pieces, within a tolerance range, is assigned thereto. Subsequently, the final appearance of the mosaic is represented and, if necessary, manual changes can be made to the assigned pieces. The above-mentioned software package then assigns the exact position of each piece in the mosaic to be formed, from the storage positions thereof, and the pieces can then be affixed using any conventional method.
