PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent causing of an increase of cutting resistance and wear of an end face of an insert main body and impairment of strength and rigidity of a cutting edge so as to secure a flat surface at the end face of the insert main body, in a cutting insert with convenient sides. SOLUTION: In this cutting insert, a cutting edge part 2 having a front cutting edge 4 provided with an inclined part 8 extending in a direction obliquely intersecting in the longitudinal direction and having one end part projected in the longitudinal direction more than the other end part is formed at an end part of the insert main body 1 extending in the longitudinal direction. A flank 11 of the front cutting edge 4 is made as a positive flank retreating in the longitudinal direction as the flank 11 is away from the front cutting edge 4. The end face 13 of the insert main body 1 continuous to an opposite side of the front cutting edge 4 of the flank 11 is made as a flat surface 13A perpendicular to the longitudinal direction on the one end part side of the front cutting edge 4.
