A method and an apparatus for supporting a connecting function including a phone book by using image in a portable terminal are provided to provide a phone book function by recording contact information in meta data of image in the portable terminal. If an image in which contact address information is recorded is selected(701), a terminal indicates the contact information in the selected image(703). The terminal inspects whether to select a specific area of the displayed area(705). If the specific area is selected, the terminal displays the connecting function by using the contact address information mapped in domain(707). If a specific connecting function are selected, the terminal confirms that the contact address information corresponding to the domain is selected(709).
